# Airdate Replay Gate: setup guide

Airdate Replay Gate is a free HubSpot module that puts a video behind a HubSpot form. Visitors see a locked frame and your form. As soon as they send it, the video loads in place of the lock, on the same page. When they come back, the video is open straight away. It works with YouTube, Vimeo, Loom and Wistia links, and with MP4 or WebM files.

It works on every HubSpot plan. No app to install, no account to create, no outside script.

**Important:** this is a soft gate. The video address is in the page, as with every embedded player, so a visitor who reads the page source can find it. It is made to collect contacts for a replay or a demo, not to protect private content. See "Limits" below.

## 1. Install and add the module

1. Install Airdate Replay Gate from the HubSpot Template Marketplace.
2. Open a website page, landing page or blog post in the editor.
3. In the **Add** panel, search for **Airdate Replay Gate** and drag it where you want the video.
4. Paste the **Video link**, choose the **Form**, then publish.

A new module has no video and no form. In the editor, a yellow note says what is missing: "Add a video link" or "Choose a form". Visitors never see these notes.

## 2. Heading and introduction

- **Heading** and **Heading level** (H2, H3 or H4): the title above the video, "Watch the replay" by default. Leave it empty to show none. Pick the level that fits the outline of your page.
- **Introduction**: one line under the heading, such as "The full session, with the slides and the questions from the audience." Leave it empty to show none.

## 3. Video and image

- **Video link**: the link of the video, as you copy it from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or Wistia, or the address of an MP4 or WebM file, for example from the HubSpot file manager. See "Video links" below.
- **Image shown while locked (optional)**: an image behind the lock, darkened so the lock text stays readable. A still from the video works well. The image is decorative: screen readers skip it. Without an image, the locked frame is a plain color (**Locked video background** in the Style tab).

## 4. Form

- **Form**: the HubSpot form visitors fill in. Forms from the new form editor and from the legacy editor both work. The video unlocks as soon as this form is sent.
- **Form heading**: a short title above the form, "Get the replay" by default. Leave it empty to show none.
- **Form text**: one line under it, such as "Tell us where to send the follow-up, and the video opens right here." Leave it empty to show none.

Without a form, the video stays locked for everyone who did not unlock it before.

## 5. Remember, key and link

- **Remember the visitor for (days)**: 180 by default, from 0 to 730. For this time, a visitor who sent the form sees the video straight away on their next visits. With 0, the video stays open only until the browser tab is closed.
- **Replay key (optional)**: gates with the same key unlock together, on any page of the site. Leave it empty and each video has its own gate. See "One form for several videos" below.
- **Open link parameter (optional)**: a word, such as `replay`, that opens the video without the form when it is in the page address. Leave it empty to turn it off. See "A link in your emails" below.
- **Skip the form for known contacts**: off by default. When on, visitors HubSpot already knows see the video directly. See "Known contacts" below.

## 6. In the editor

- **In the editor, show**: **The form (locked)** by default, or **The video (unlocked)**. It only changes what you see in the editor and in previews, so you can check both states. On the live page, visitors see the form, unless they unlocked the video before, came with the open link parameter, or are known contacts with that option on.
- In the editor and in previews, the open link parameter and the known contacts option are ignored: the state you chose above is shown.

## 7. Texts

Every word the module adds is a field, in the **Texts** group. Write them in your page's language:

- Text on the locked video ("Fill in the form to watch");
- Message once unlocked ("Thanks! The replay is ready."), shown under the video and read by screen readers;
- Button for other video links ("Watch the replay");
- Screen reader hint for links that open a new tab ("(opens in a new tab)");
- Video title, for screen readers ("Replay video");
- Editor notes: no video link, no form. Shown in the editor only.

## 8. Appearance

In the **Style** tab:

- **Layout**: **Form beside the video** (the default) or **Form under the video**. Beside the video applies on screens at least 900 px wide; on smaller screens the form is always under the video. Once the video is open, it takes the full width.
- Colors: accent (circle behind the lock, focus ring of the video), text, secondary text (introduction, form text, message), form panel background, borders, locked video background and text on the locked video.
- **Corner radius**: 0 to 24 px, for the video and the form panel.

The module uses your theme's font. The form keeps the style of your theme or of the form itself.

## Forms: new editor and legacy editor

The module listens for the "form sent" signal of HubSpot forms. Both kinds of forms send one:

- **Forms from the new form editor**: the module unlocks when HubSpot reports that the form was sent successfully.
- **Forms from the legacy editor**: the module unlocks when the form reports that it was submitted.

In both cases, the video opens only after the form was sent, not when the visitor clicks the button with a missing field.

**Keep the inline message.** In the form field, keep the response set to show a message. A redirect sends the visitor to another page, away from the video they asked for. Once the form is sent, the form panel gives way to the video, so the form's own message is hardly seen: the text visitors read is **Message once unlocked**, in the Texts group.

No form chosen: in the editor, a yellow note asks for one; on the live page, the lock shows without an empty form panel.

Each gate unlocks with its own form. Other HubSpot forms on the page, such as a newsletter form in the footer, do not open the video. One exception: if the same form is also used elsewhere on the page, sending it there can open the gate too. If the page has two gates or more, only the gate whose form was sent announces the video and takes the keyboard focus.

## How the gate remembers visitors

1. When the form is sent, the video opens on the page. The message once unlocked appears under it, and the keyboard focus moves to the video.
2. The module notes, in the visitor's browser, that this gate is open, with an end date: now plus the number of days you set. With 0 days, the note lasts until the tab is closed.
3. On the next visits, the module reads that note and shows the video straight away, until the end date. After it, the form shows again.

The note is kept in the browser's local storage for this site, under a name that starts with `airdate-replay-gate:`. The module sets no cookie. A visitor who comes back on another browser or another device sees the form again, unless HubSpot knows them and the known contacts option is on.

**Lock it again to test.** Once you sent the form, the gate stays open in your browser. To see the form again, clear the site data of your site in your browser (in Chrome: the icon left of the address, then **Site settings**, then **Delete data**), or open the page in a private window. You can also choose **The form (locked)** in the editor to check the locked state without sending the form.

## One form for several videos

By default each video has its own gate: the key is the video link. To let visitors unlock several videos with one form, give the gates the same **Replay key**, such as `spring-series`:

- on one page, sending the form of one gate opens every gate with that key;
- on another page of the site, a gate with that key is already open for this visitor.

Each gate keeps its own **Remember the visitor for** setting when it is the one unlocked. The key is shared within one site address: pages on another domain or subdomain do not share it.

## A link in your emails

People who already registered for your webinar should not have to fill in a form again. Type a word in **Open link parameter**, for example `replay`, and add it to the page address in your follow-up email:

`https://example.com/replay?replay`

A visitor who opens this link sees the video without the form, and is remembered like after sending the form, for the same number of days. `?replay=1` works too, and the word can follow other parameters (`?utm_source=email&replay`). The word is case sensitive: use it exactly as typed in the field.

Anyone who has the link can open the video: send it only to people you are happy to give the replay to.

## Known contacts

With **Skip the form for known contacts** on, the video opens directly for visitors HubSpot already knows: their browser has the HubSpot tracking cookie and it is linked to a contact, for example because they sent one of your forms before in this browser.

- HubSpot decides who is known, when the page is served. Visitors without the tracking cookie, for example because they declined cookies, are not known, and see the form.
- For a known contact, the video opens on every visit; nothing more is noted in the browser.
- The option is ignored in the editor and in previews.

## Video links

Paste the link as you copy it. The module turns it into the right player:

- **YouTube**: `youtube.com/watch?v=...`, `youtu.be/...`, and links to embed, live and shorts videos. It plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), without related videos from other channels at the end. A start time in the link (`t=90`, `t=2m`, `t=1m30s`) is kept.
- **Vimeo**: `vimeo.com/123456789`, and unlisted videos with their private hash (`vimeo.com/123456789/abcdef1234`), and live events (`vimeo.com/event/1234567`).
- **Loom**: `loom.com/share/...` or `loom.com/embed/...`.
- **Wistia**: `yourname.wistia.com/medias/...`, `wi.st/medias/...` or an embed link.
- **Video files**: an address ending in `.mp4` or `.webm` (also `.m4v` and `.mov`, if the visitor's browser can play them) plays in the browser's own player. Upload the file to the HubSpot file manager and paste its address.

A link without `https://` is completed for the players above. Any other link, such as a page of another video platform, shows a **Watch the replay** button in place of the player once the form is sent. It opens the link in a new tab.

The player loads only once the video is open. While the gate is locked, nothing is loaded from the video platform.

## Without JavaScript

The gate opens in the visitor's browser. If the browser does not run JavaScript, the lock and the form remain, and the video does not open.

## Accessibility

- The lock is marked with words ("Fill in the form to watch"), not by the icon alone. The icon is hidden from screen readers.
- When the form is sent, the message once unlocked is announced to screen readers, and the keyboard focus moves to the video, or to the **Watch the replay** button. If the video is above the screen, the page scrolls to it.
- The player has a title for screen readers (**Video title** in the Texts group).
- The **Watch the replay** button is at least 44 px high, and tells screen readers that it opens a new tab.
- The video has a visible focus outline in the accent color.
- The heading level is yours to choose, to fit the outline of the page. When there is a heading, the block is labelled by it.
- The form's own accessibility (labels, errors) comes from HubSpot forms.

## Limits

- **A soft gate.** The video address is in the page, as with every embedded player: someone who reads the page source can watch without the form. That is fine for a replay or a demo you share in exchange for an email. For content that must stay private, use HubSpot's private content (memberships) where your plan includes it, or a video host setting that limits who can watch.
- **Blocked storage.** If the visitor's browser blocks site storage (some private modes and strict privacy settings), the video still opens after the form, for that page view only. On the next visit, the form shows again.
- **Loom and Wistia follow their sharing settings.** The video must be allowed to play on other sites. A Loom video that is not shared publicly, or a Wistia video limited to other domains, shows the platform's own message in the player. The same goes for a private YouTube video: use an unlisted one.
- **One video per module.** For several videos behind one form, add one module per video and give them the same **Replay key**.
- **Per browser.** The module remembers the browser, not the person. Another browser or device shows the form again, unless the known contacts option is on and HubSpot knows the visitor there.
- **Keep the inline message.** With a redirect, the visitor leaves the page before seeing the video.

## FAQ

**Does it need Content Hub Pro?**
No. It works on every HubSpot plan, including free.

**Does it work in emails?**
No. It works in website pages, landing pages and blog pages (posts and listing). In your emails, link to the page, with the open link parameter if you want the video to open directly.

**Where do the form submissions go?**
To HubSpot, like any submission of that form. The module only opens the video; it does not change what the form records.

**I sent the form and now I cannot see it any more. How do I test again?**
Clear the site data of your site in your browser, or use a private window. See "How the gate remembers visitors".

**The form is sent, but the video does not open. Why?**
Check that the form of the gate is the one being sent, and that **Video link** is set. If the player shows an error, check the sharing settings of the video on its platform.

**Can I translate the labels?**
Yes. All texts are fields, in the **Texts** group. The form's own texts are set in the HubSpot form editor.

**Can I use it more than once on a page?**
Yes. Each module has its own video, form and settings. Give them the same **Replay key** to unlock them together.

## Texts in French, German and Spanish

Every word the module shows is a field. To use the module on a page in another language, open the module in the editor and paste these texts in the matching fields. Keep the words in braces, such as `{n}`, as they are: the module replaces them. Dates, times and numbers already follow the language of the page.

## Going further

This module puts one video behind one form. For a whole webinar series, **Airdate Webinar** (199 $) is a theme with a page for each session, a replay page with the form before the replay built in for every session of the series, a countdown and several series.
