What you will be able to do

In twelve weeks you go from spreadsheets to a portfolio project built with SQL and Python, reviewed by working analysts. Evenings are online and live; one Saturday a month you work on campus with your cohort.

Curriculum

Twelve weeks, six units

6 modules 120 hours of teaching

  1. Weeks 1–2 From spreadsheets to tables 18 h
    • Cleaning messy data in a spreadsheet
    • Pivot tables and lookups you can trust
    • What a relational database is, and why it helps
    • Your first SELECT queries

    OutcomeYou will be able to clean a messy export and describe it as a set of related tables.

  2. Weeks 3–4 SQL for analysis 22 h
    • Joins, and how they go wrong
    • Grouping and aggregates
    • Window functions for running totals and rankings
    • Readable queries with CTEs

    OutcomeYou will be able to answer a business question with one clear, reviewed SQL query.

  3. Weeks 5–6 Python and pandas 20 h
    • Notebooks and a clean project folder
    • DataFrames: filter, reshape, merge
    • Reading data straight from SQL
    • Automating a weekly report

    OutcomeYou will be able to turn a manual weekly report into a script that runs in seconds.

  4. Weeks 7–8 Statistics you will actually use 20 h
    • Averages, medians and the outliers between them
    • Distributions and sampling
    • A/B tests and confidence intervals
    • When a difference is not a difference

    OutcomeYou will be able to say how sure you are about a result, in one sentence a manager understands.

  5. Weeks 9–10 Dashboards and data stories 18 h
    • Choosing the right chart
    • Building a dashboard people open twice
    • Writing a one-page summary
    • Presenting numbers to non-analysts

    OutcomeYou will be able to build a small dashboard and explain what changed and why.

  6. Weeks 11–12 Portfolio project 22 h
    • Your own dataset, or one from a partner company
    • Two reviews with a working analyst
    • Final presentation to the cohort

    OutcomeYou will be able to show a finished, reviewed analysis in a job interview.

    Enrolment and funding

    How do I enrol?

    Pick a date on the programme page and fill in the application form. An advisor calls you within two working days to check the programme fits. You then confirm your seat with a deposit.

    Can my employer pay for the programme?

    Yes. Most of our students are funded by their employer. We can send an invoice, accept a purchase order, and give you a syllabus and a training agreement for your manager.

    Can I get a refund?

    You get a full refund if you cancel up to 14 days before the start date. After that, we refund half the fee until the end of the first week, or move you to a later cohort at no cost.

    During the programme

    How many hours a week should I plan for?

    About ten hours a week for part-time programmes: two live evening classes, plus exercises in your own time. On-campus days in London, Berlin and Toronto are listed with each date.

    What if I miss a class?

    Every live class is recorded and posted the same evening. Watch it, do the exercise, and bring your questions to the weekly office hour. If you miss more than three classes, we can move you to the next cohort.

    Do I get a certificate?

    Yes. You receive a Pellam Institute certificate when you attend at least 80% of the classes and hand in the final project. It lists the hours and the skills covered.
